A Little Pot of Petunias

10 x 12 inch Oil on canvas.

Painted from imagination.

I really wanted to try and challenge myself to do something completely without reference or anything in front of me. I did look at some photos of petunias and do some drawings before hand to understand how they work but then once i got painting it was all from my mind.

In this age of AI i fear that sometimes we might be losing some of our humanity a little. I have dabbled with it and used it to compose some of my paintings and create references but I don't want it to make me lazy and reliant on it and I also think that it destroys a lot of the magic in the process of creating art. It is amazing what our human brains are capable of doing so I don't think we should let the tech industry just turn us into vegetables.

Artists have been creating from imagination for centuries. Michaelangelo's Cistine Chapel. Raphael's School of Athens! Kim Jung Gi's drawings. They all look better than any AI i have ever seen. And AI art could never be what it is without the human art to begin with.

For A Little Pot of Petunias I imagined a quiet scene with light streaming in on a flower pot. Perhaps early morning at the kitchen window sill. I'm quite proud of how it turned out.
